Job description
Perform a wide variety of duties and tasks predominantly associated with the mechanical (millwright) discipline including a multitude of maintenance interventions ranging from basic parts replacements to equipment refurbishment to optimizing equipment performance to advanced troubleshooting. Maintenance activities include, but are not limited to, inspection, (parts) replacements, alignment, balancing, installation, and refurbishment. Understand and maintain complex processing equipment including their operating principles and role in the process/factory. Understand equipment function and application to the extent that equipment performance can be optimized. Work closely with Production gaining a detailed understanding of operating parameters to ensure that maintenance interventions are both appropriate and effective. Coordinate with production supervision to execute maintenance interventions on production equipment to ensure that equipment is properly configured and/or set up. Must think in abstract terms, solve complex problems and apply troubleshooting skills. Maintain mechanical power transmission equipment including drives and conveying equipment employed in a variety of factory specific applications. Maintain fluid systems, including liquid, pneumatic, hydraulic, pumps, valves, compressors, blowers, and fans. Perform a variety of joining and fabrication activities. Weld, cut, braze, and solder a variety of materials, including welding carbon steel using the SMAW and GMAW processes and welding stainless steel metals using the SMAW process.
F.a.5a-F.a.6b: 36+ hours/week. 12-hour shifts 8:00 am to 8:00 pm (day shift) and 8:00 pm to 8:00 am (night shift), 4 days per week, Sun-Sat on a rotating Dupont Schedule:
WEEK 1: Mon-Thur: Day Shift, Fri-Sun: Off (total 48 hours)
WEEK 2: Mon-Thur: Off, Fri-Sun: Night Shift (total 36 hours)
WEEK3: Mon: Night Shift, Tue-Thur: Off, Fri-Sun: Day Shift (total 48 hours)
WEEK 4: Mon: Off, Tue-Thur: Night Shift, Fri-Sun: Off (total 36 hours)
May work evenings, weekends, holidays, as needed. Schedule (including workdays) may vary. May work more than the guaranteed hours. May work overtime. OT varies and must be pre-approved.
F.b.8a: Wage is subject to change as of August 1, 2026 based on the Collective Bargaining Agreement, but workers will be paid no less than $33.78 per hour.
F.b.9: Effective January 1, 2024, per MN State Statute, an employee will earn one hour of paid sick and safe time for every 30 hours worked, up to at least 48 hours of accrued Earned Sick and Safe Time (ESST) per year, provided the employee works a minimum of 80 hours in a calendar year.
F.d.4: Workers have the option of employer-provided housing for the first month for $500 per month for a double occupancy room, and if elected, employer will deduct costs from worker’s paycheck. Workers also have the option of securing their own lodging.
Special Requirements
High school diploma, GED certificate, or foreign equivalent required. On-the-job training will not be provided.
Must possess 12 months of experience in mechanical or millwright work.
Must submit to and successfully pass a pre-employment Safety Screen that evaluates workers ability to safely execute duties and tasks of this position.
Must complete and pass a mechanical aptitude test. Must complete and pass 1G welding test within 180 days of job offer.
Must be able to read, write, and speak English to comprehend and interpret technical literature, reference material, and understand how to use SDS information.
Must be a team player who demonstrates initiative and professional work ethic.
Must possess good communication and interpersonal skills.
Must be able to work overtime as needed. Must be able to work rotating and extended shifts.
Physical / Cognitive Requirements:
Must be able to work independently and in a team environment.
Must be able to communicate effectively and have training / knowledge in emergency evacuation procedures. Must know and understand all current GMPs, safety rules / procedures and SDS information as they apply to the packaging area and packaging of food products.
Must understand equipment operating principles and fundamentals.
Must follow Good Manufacturing Practices and personal protective equipment requirements. Occasional exposure to noise levels above 85dB. Airborne sugar dust varies from light to heavy depending on the area. Exposure to outdoor environment, temperatures will vary from cool to moderately hot. Personal protective equipment must be worn as required; must be able to be properly fit tested for use of dust respirators.
Must be able to walk and stand throughout the day. Frequently will turn, twist, bend/stoop, squat, climb stairs and ladders (including ships ladders), reach above shoulder height, crouch, crawl, kneel, balance, push / pull, shovel sugar, re-stack pallets, walk distances, sometimes over uneven surfaces and/or at elevated heights. Employee must be able to perform repetitive tasks with fine manipulation.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds on a continual basis, 50-100 pounds on occasion with lifting assistance. Employees must be able to shovel into containers at shoulder level occasionally. Must be able to reach overhead with hands and arms and perform repetitive upper body movement. Must be able to open top and bottom railcar doors.
Must be able to work on various walking surfaces which may be slippery due to loose sugar, water or ice, and uneven at times concrete, steel grating, aluminum decking and rail yard areas. Exposure to cleaning and sanitizing chemicals, hot water, high humidity, high traffic areas, moving machinery, lifting of materials or cased product, stair climbing, elevated work areas.
