Job description

Assists in the safe and efficient operation of the factory yard; assists in maintaining cleanliness of the factory. Perform material receiving, handling, storage and shipping operations of coal, coke, lime rock, filter aid, operating chemicals such as gypsum, soda ash, quicklime, and other material as required. Perform railroad operations such as railcar inspection, loading and weighing, moving, switching; locomotive operation after training. Workers load pellets and molasses into railcars. To load railcars, workers use a bobcat, track mobile or locomotive, shovels, brooms, metal bars, and a loadout hose. Workers use a leaf blower to clean railcars off and out. Adhere to all rail yard operational methods and procedures. Operate a forklift and/or Bobcat loader. Keep all storage areas, yards and equipment maintained and clean. Clean and sweep floors, hose and clean equipment, cart and dump trash barrels. Mix chemicals for boil out solutions (the worker mixes caustic soda, an acid called phreedom, an acid called sar350, and soda ash by pouring 50lb bags of these chemicals into an auger/scroll or/and open valves to mix the correct gallons of a chemical to another tank). Fill and record bags to the Magox and Gypsum stations (this consists of pouring 50lb bags of potato starch and Magox (magnesium oxide) into a system and keep track of it). Shovel remelt sugar. Assure that all work areas are kept clean within the food safety and sanitation guidelines. Complete reports as required. Report mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, environmental, food safety, feed safety, operational problems, and/or unsafe conditions to supervisor. Other job related duties as business requires. Adhere to company policies and perform assigned duties safely, efficiently, and in compliance with safety, food safety, food quality, feed safety, sanitation rules and programs, and environmental permits.

The employer will offer a minimum of 36 hours of work per week. Business operates 7 days a week, workdays vary Sunday through Saturday. Normal schedule consists of 12-hour shifts that rotate between day shift (8am to 8pm) and night shift (8pm to 8am) every two weeks. Rotating shift pattern alternates weekly between a 3-day workweek (36 hours) and a 4-day workweek (48 hours), allowing the worker to be off every other weekend. Shifts include 3 paid breaks. Workdays, hours, and shift times may vary with business needs.

Basic rate of pay from $22.85 to $25.85 per hour. Base wage is $22.85 per hour for non-rotating or standard shift assignments due to operational needs or training; when working rotating shifts, the wage is increased to a shift-differential rate of $25.85 per hour. The employer may increase wages based on experience, market conditions, and/or provide additional pay for performance and tenure. Employees may be eligible for an incentive compensation bonus. Optional union membership is available.

Overtime is available and required as necessary. An overtime premium will be paid when required by Federal, State, or local law, including at time-and-a-half after 40 hours in a single workweek. Overtime will be paid at $34.28 per hour when the base wage applies, and at $38.78 per hour when the rotating shift rate applies.

Special Requirements

Requires successful completion of forklift training and certification test (training provided onsite by employer).
Must be able to bend, lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs. on a frequent basis.
Must be able to read, write, and follow instructions.
Must be able to certify understanding of environmental requirements.
Must be able to stand or walk on concrete floors for the entire shift if necessary.
Must be able to climb stairs and ladders.
Must be able to work in extreme cold/hot temperatures and in loud/noisy and dusty conditions.

Must be willing and able to work overtime and holidays when necessary.
Must be willing and able to work rotating shifts up to 12 hours a day, including overnight shift.
Must have good attendance, safety, disciplinary, and overall employment records.
