Job description

Workers will perform manual labor to accomplish prep, greenhouse (approx. 15%), field and sorting work. Prep work: clean and sanitize trays, pots, baskets, tools, equipment, surfaces, floors, and stakes that could come into contact with crop/product daily. Greenhouse work (approx. 15%): sweep, seed, pot, re-organize trays as well as plants and seed tables, water, lift potting soil bags to make seeding mix, trim, prune, organize and keep storage areas clean. Field work: plant seeds and plants, cultivate, harvest, and sort eggplant, squash and peppers, field maintenance which includes weeding, both pulling by hand and hoeing, clean cleaning plants, prune, trim, drive stakes, string crops up, harvest crops, pick up trash in and around the planting area, clean and sanitize all tools used in field including clippers, baskets, stakes, equipment, and field wagons, keep field break area and field vehicles clean and free of debris at all times, clean field equipment storage area and keep organized at all times, dig and maintain irrigation ditches, field roads and right-of-ways, and pull mulch plastic and drip tape, lay mulch plastic and drip tape, lift and carry mulch plastic and drip tape rolls, hook up of drip irrigation, lift and carry picking baskets full of picked product out of field to transport wagons. Sort work: sort/grade all good produce into shipping boxes/RPCs, assemble/fold up right shipping boxes/RPCs, lifting finished product in boxes and stacking on pallets, lift and carry pallets, carry to remove culled product from sorting facility to designated waste area, fix broken pallets, clean and sanitize all tools, surfaces, equipment, and floors that could come in contact with product daily, keep work area clean and free of debris at all times, all tools/equipment unused product must be put away daily in proper storage location to stay clean and organized. All workers are to assist with Good Agricultural Practices policies. Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, honey bees, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, or related chemicals may affect a worker's ability to perform the job. Persons seeking employment in this position must be available for the entire period requested by the employer. Employer reserves the right to discharge an obviously unqualified worker, malingerer or recalcitrant worker who is physically able but is unwilling to perform the work necessary for the employer to grow a premium quality product, or for any other lawful reason.

Employer may request, but not require, workers to work more than the stated daily hours and/or on a worker's Sabbath or federal holidays. Worker must report to work at designated time and place each day. Daily or weekly work schedule may vary due to weather, sunlight, temperature, crop conditions, and other factors. Employer will notify workers of any change to start time.

Workers should expect occasional periods of little or no work because of weather, crop or other conditions beyond the employer's control. These periods can occur anytime throughout the season. Workers may be assigned a variety of duties in any given day and different tasks on different days.

TERMINATION. All workers will be subject to a two day introductory period, during which the employer will evaluate workers' performance of required tasks. Employer reserves the right to terminate a worker at the conclusion of the introductory period if the worker's performance fails to satisfy the employer's reasonable expectations, or is otherwise unacceptable.

Special Requirements

Three months of farm work experience is required. Perform prolonged walking, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, lifting and carrying up to 55 pound boxes/baskets of produce repeatedly. Work outside in extreme weather conditions such as extreme heat, rain, mud, direct sunlight and dirt for extended periods of time.
