Job description

Plant, pot, cultivate and harvest various types of trees and shrubs grow in fields on 200 acre Catawba Tree Farm. Workers will also spray approved chemicals to control pests, weeds and diseases. Employer will issue appropriate Personal Protective Equipment as appropriate. Work includes pinching, pruning, fertilizing, watering, rooting, weeding, loading, transporting, discarding, rotating, grading, storing, and field grown trees and shrubs according to supervisor's instructions. Harvesting includes digging up products, balling and securing delicate dirt and root systems in burlap secured with rope, pins or wire, to be stored until ready for shipment. Grading is done by size, shape, and quality. Products are measured and tied for storage and shipment. Workers will maintain and operate farm equipment as needed. Workers will also load and unload supplies from trucks and or wagons.

Special Requirements

Workers with a clean driving record (no major moving violations such as but not limited to Driving While Intoxicated or Reckless Driving) and able to obtain an insurable driver's license may be required to drive company vehicles. Persons seeking employment in this position must be available for the entire period requested by the employer. Employer reserves the right to terminate a worker if the employer reasonably finds worker's performance during the trial period to be unacceptable. Employer reserves the right to discharge an obviously unqualified worker, malingerer or recalcitrant worker who is physically able but is unwilling to perform the work necessary for the employer to grow a premium quality product, or for any other lawful reason. The employer may discipline the worker, including brief suspension of work activities/employment for a set period determined by the supervisor or termination of employment.
