Job description
The Line Cook is responsible for a la carte line work, hot food and pantry preparation, as well as banquet and buffet production. Additional duties include: read and execute recipes; maintain a clean, organized work area, and ensure all equipment is properly cleaned and in safe, good working order; double check daily forecasts to prepare and set up properly; manage proper rotation, storage, and dating of all food items; train on all lines and stewarding equipment to provide backup assistance as needed; communicate effectively and professionally with coworkers and supervisors; work closely with chefs to develop menus and plating designs, order and inventory food, and help train prep cooks and dishwashers in accordance with department standards; and work cohesively with a team in a fast-paced kitchen environment. Perform other related duties as required.
Employer will offer full-time hours (35 hours/week). Overtime may be available, but is not guaranteed. Resort is open 7 days per week. Work days and shift times will vary. Work week runs Thursday through Wednesday with wages paid weekly each Friday. Shifts vary based on estate location, business levels, occupancy and scheduled events. Holiday and weekend shifts are required. May be scheduled for weekend, split, and rotating shifts. Shift times include: 5:00 AM to 12:30 PM,8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, 9:00 AM to 5:00PM, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, 11:00 AM to7:00 PM, 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM, 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM, 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM, and4:00 PM to 12:00 AM.
Special Requirements
MUST BE ABLE TO WORK WEEKENDS AND HOLIDAYS. ONE YEAR OF RELATED CULINARY EXPERIENCE IN A FULL-SERVICE RESTAURANT REQUIRED. ALL APPLICANTS (U.S. AND FOREIGN WORKERS) MUST MEET HIRING STANDARDS OF BILTMORE: MUST BE FUNCTIONALLY LITERATE, AND HAVE A CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK CLEAR OF ANY MISDEMEANORS WITHIN 2 YEARS OR FELONIES WITHIN 7 YEARS. BACKGROUND CHECK WILL BE CONDUCTED FOLLOWING OFFER OF EMPLOYMENT. MUST BE ABLE TO SIT, STAND, BEND, PUSH, PULL, WALK, AND LIFT UP TO 50 POUNDS ON A REGULAR BASIS FOR UP TO 10 HOURS PER DAY. MUST BE ABLE TO WORK EFFECTIVELY IN A KITCHEN ENVIRONMENT WITH OCCASIONAL EXTREMES IN TEMPERATURE (HEAT, COLD, HUMIDITY) FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME.
