Job description
Oyster Delicacy, LLC needs 50 Seasonal Oyster Plant Workers to work in our processing plant located at 4889 W. Main Street, Houma, LA 70360 in Terrebonne Parish County from October 1, 2022, to August 1, 2023. Duties: Workers will gently place oysters on shaking tables and separate the oysters depending on quality, size, and color of shell; workers will wash, clean, pack, weigh, label, and place the processed oysters in ice boxes or in ice barrels to ensure oysters are kept cold and remain at their proper temperature preserving contamination and preserving their freshness while awaiting freezer trucks to pick up processed oysters and delivered to its designated consumers who offer fresh oysters in their establishments for human consumption or to wholesalers who resell the oysters to various production companies who use shellfish as an added ingredient in their products for taste and nutrients for both human or animal consumption. All deductions from workers’ paychecks required by law will be made. Tools, equipment, and supplies will be provided to workers at no cost. The anticipated employment will last 120 days or more. Employer guarantees to offer work for a total number of hours equal to at least three-fourths of the workdays in each 12-week period of the total employment period. H2B workers will be reimbursed in the first workweek for all visa processing, border crossing, and other related fees, including those mandated by the government (excluding passport fees). Transportation for H2B visa workers and non-commuting United States Domestic workers, including meals and lodging to the extent necessary, to the place of employment, will be provided, or its costs to workers will be reimbursed if the workers complete half the employment period. Return transportation will be provided if the worker completes the employment period or is dismissed earlier by the employer. Upon completion of the work contract or where the worker is dismissed earlier, the employer will provide or pay for the worker’s reasonable costs of transportation and subsistence back home or to the place the worker originally departed to work, except where the worker will not return due to subsequent employment with another employer or where the employer has appropriately reported a worker’s voluntary abandonment of employment. The amount of transportation payment or reimbursement will be equal to the most economical and reasonable common carrier for the distance involved. Daily meals will be provided at a rate of $14.00 p/day during travel to a maximum of $59.00 p/day with receipts. Public transportation is available to the central location. Tools, supplies, and equipment required to perform duties will be provided at no cost to workers. Daily transportation to and from the plant will be provided to workers from the central location (337 Broadway Avenue, Schriever LA 70395) to the plant located at 4889 W. Main Street, Houma, LA 70360 at no cost to workers. Workers will work rotating shifts; Monday to Saturday (6:00 AM to 2:00 PM or 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM or 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM); Employer will have lodging available at 4903 W. Main Street, Houma LA 70360, fully furnished and equipped kitchens for workers to prepare their daily meals, if the worker chooses to rent at this location, the rent will be $160.00 per month with utilities included. Workers are responsible for paying for their own lodging, including utilities. Employers will provide workers with all tools, supplies, and equipment needed to perform duties at no charge.
