Job description
Bedrock Seafood Inc needs 60 Temporary Oyster Plant Workers to work in our seasonal processing plant located at 15207 Hwy 694, Abbeville, Louisiana 70510 in Vermilion County. Starting October 01, 2022, to August 01, 2023. Workers will prepare and sanitize the entire plant when oysters arrive from shore and aquaculture farms to be processed in the plant. Upon arrival, workers place oysters immediately on shaking tables and separate the oysters depending on quality; clean, pack, weigh, label, and put the oysters in iceboxes in preparation for pick-up or shipment to restaurants or establishments who offer oysters for consumption or wholesalers for resale. Three months (3) experience, no education required; must undergo drug screening and random drug screening at employers’ expense; 7 hours, Monday through Friday and 5 hours on Saturdays; 40 hours per week, paid weekly; tools, equipment, supplies to perform assigned duties will be provided to workers by the employer at no cost. The anticipated employment will last 120 days or more. Employer guarantees to offer work for a total number of hours equal to at least three-fourths of the workdays in each 12-week period of the total employment period. H-2B workers will be reimbursed in the first workweek for all visa processing, border crossing, and other related fees, including those mandated by the government (excluding passport fees). Transportation for H-2B Visa workers and the non-commuting United States Domestic Workers, including meals and lodging to the extent necessary, will be provided to the workplace, or its cost to workers will be reimbursed if the worker completes half the employment period. Return transportation will be provided if the worker completes the employment period or is dismissed earlier by the employer. Upon completion of the work contract or where the worker is dismissed earlier, the employer will provide or pay for the workers reasonable costs of transportation and subsistence back home or to the place the worker originally departed to work, except where the worker will not return due to subsequent employment with another employer or where the employer has appropriately reported a worker’s voluntary abandonment of employment. The amount of transportation payment or reimbursement will be equal to the most economical and reasonable common carrier for the distance involved. Daily meals will be provided at a rate of at least $14.00 p/day during travel to a maximum of $59.00 p/day with receipts. Workers will work on a rotating schedule Monday to Friday for 7 hours (6:00 AM to 2:00 PM or 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM or 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM) and Saturday 5 hours (6:00 AM to 11:00 AM, or 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM; All deductions from worker’s paycheck required by law will be made. Employer will have lodging available with a fully equipped kitchen to prepare daily meals. A lodging fee of $150.00 per month, including utilities, will be deducted from the worker’s paycheck if the worker accepts lodging offered by the employer. For workers who choose not to live in housing provided by the employer and prefer to live elsewhere, the $150.00 per month fee will not be deducted from the worker’s paycheck.
Special Requirements
Three (3) months experience, no education required; willing to undergo pre-employment drug testing and random drug testing at employers expense; work rotating shifts; workers must be able to stand for long periods while performing work duties and endure working in a wet and cold environment.
