Job description

Crops/Commodities:
nursery stock, including, bedding plants, trees, and shrubs.
Drive semi tractor-trailer truck to/from delivery or pickup destinations. Regularly climb into and out of trucks and trailers. Check vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order. Inspect loads to ensure that cargo is secure. Secure cargo for transport using ropes, blocks, chains, binders,covers, or any other provided material necessary to secure load. Check all load-related documentation for completeness and accuracy. Maneuver trucks into and out of loading and unloading positions. Load-unload trailers and cargo. Handle equipment and cargo carefully to prevent damage. Load/unload plant products in a timely fashion and merchandise product to stores/delivery addresses. Load/Unload racks. Drive trucks to weigh stations before and after loading and along routes in compliance with state regulations. Interact with roadway officials. Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspection and paperwork on trucks and trailers. Clean/maintain lights, windows, tire pressure, barkes, trailer doors, lift gates,, and vehicle exterior. Add engine oil and fuel as needed. Perform preventative maintenance. Must be able to drive in rain, snow, and other hazardous conditions as needed. Drive in both on-road (paved) and off-road conditions. May drive other vehicle types. Use GPS and/or maps to navigate to destinations. Read/comprehend traffic signage and directions. Maintain CDL license, good driving record, and meet all federal and state regulations while driving; including all DOT require log books and/or other paperwork. Use company credit card for approved purchases only. Maintain complete and accurate trip logs/reports, receipts, invoice copies, etc. Notify the office immediately of any repairs needed or made and of any tickets or accidents. May be required to contact customeres from your paperwork and inform them if you will be early or late by an hour or more. Must note any returned/refused items and the reason on paperwork. Assist in unloading orders when necessary. Must always be courteous to customers and maintain professional appearance. Return all required paperwork, including invoices, receipts, trip logs, hours, etc. to the office upon returning from each trip. May be required to unload and reload truck upon returning to the office.

Workers must operate all equipment properly and in a manner that protects operator, others, the employer's products and property. Failure to comply with safety requirements and operating instructions may result in disciplinary action up to and including immediate termination.

Workers may be required to perform other agricultural duties associated with the production of nursery stock. This will be a de minimus amount of work involved over the course of the season and is available only when driving/delivering nursery product is unavailable.

Supervisor(s) will provide instructions and directions to workers. Workers must be able to comprehend and follow instructions and communicate effectively to supervisors. Unusual, complex or non-routine activities will be supervised. Workers expected to perform basic duties in a proficient manner without close supervision.

Use, possession, transfer, offer, sale or manufacture of marijuana and/or controlled substances strictly prohibited. All work sites are alcohol and drug free work places. Employees must not report for work, enter the employers' property or perform work while under the influence of or having used alcohol, marijuana, illegal controlled substances, or any other substance that may in any way adversely affect alertness, coordination, reaction time or safety. Except for moderate alcohol consumption in company housing during non-working hours, the possession or use of illegal drugs or alcohol on company property is prohibited and will be cause for termination.

Special Requirements

Class A CDL or equivalent, required. This job requires a minimum of 3 months of prior experience driving trucks (semi-trucks). Workers must be able to perform manual and mechanized tasks with accuracy and efficiency. Applicants must be able to furnish verbal or written statement establishing relevant prior work experience. Saturday work required. Must be able to lift/carry 60 lbs. Employer-paid post-hire background check required. Mandatory employer-paid drug test at hire or upon arrival for foreign workers. Mandatory Employer paid DOT Physical at hire or upon arrival for foreign workers.Employer-paid post-hire drug and alcohol testing at random, upon suspicion, and after a worker has an accident at work. Worker must comply with any and all DOT requirements including but not limited to pre and post trip inspections and ELD Logs (Electronic Logging Device)
