Job description

Equine -

Workers will perform all job duties according to the instruction and supervision of the farm manager and senior staff. Extremely specific instructions may be given regarding care for particular horses sometimes on a daily basis.

Identify and catch horses in stalls and fields, affix halters and lead ropes, lead into barn and place securely in stalls and tum back out. Competence in basic grooming practices including bathing, brushing, hoof care and is desired. Clean stalls by removing soiled
bedding and manure, replace with fresh bedding. Strip stalls and disinfect floors, walls and surrounding areas for broodmares. Sweep barn aisles, stall areas and ceilings to remove dirt, hay, cobwebs and other duties. Maintain/clean and fill water troughs and buckets. Manage basic feeding activities including apportioning grain, hay and feed
supplements according to instruction. Observe and identify sick or injured horses and rcpo11injuries to the Farm Manager. Assist farrier in trimming feet and shoeing horses. Hold horses for farriers and vete1inarians. Assist in breeding and foaling of mares. Assist with post-pregnancy treatment of mares and neonatal care of foals. Work with foals/yearlings, including brushing, leading, picking up feet. Assist in handling young horses in preparation for sales, bathing, grooming and walking yearlings for exercise.
Assist in unloading bagged feed, hay and bedding and placing in storage location in barns.

Alternative Work -

General farm maintenance and other duties as required in the farming operation. Includes, but not limited to, maintenance of tools and equipment and other work as related to the fimn activities for which the worker is hired. Also includes fixing, clearing and painting of fence/barns and weed eating.

Worker may be required to work when weather is wet and should have suitable clothing for conditions which include rain and temperatures ranging from 0 degrees to more than 90 degrees. Workers should be able to stand, bend, stoop and work for prolonged periods of time and be physically fit to perform duties as assigned. Care must be exercised at all
times when working with the horses and equipment.

Experience:
3 months of verifiable experience required working with foals, yearling preparation and vaccinations

Special Requirements

Experience:
3 months of verifiable experience required working with foals, yearling preparation and vaccinations. Physically able to bend, stoop, and able to stand on feet for long periods of time. Physically able to meet and perform all job specifications. May be required to take random drug and / or alcohol tests, at no cost to the worker. Testing positive or failure to comply may result in immediate termination from employment. All testing and background check will occur after employment has started and is not a part of the interview process. May be required to submit a criminal background check, at no cost to the worker. Felony convictions that employer reasonably believes, consistent with current law, will impair the safety and living conditions of other workers or other individuals on the farm will result in immediate termination. Failure to comply with request for criminal background check may result in immediate termination of employment.
