Job description

Crops/Commodities:
corn, soybeans, oats.
Performs manual pulling/removal of weeds from farm fields associated with the production of corn, soybeans and oats. Removes weeds at the root by hand or with the use of hand tools such as hoe, hand shovel or corn knife. Helps with irrigation, loads product, cleans around barns. Upon occasion workers may be required to dig ditches and install water lines to sheds, barns, stock tanks and other structures on the farm.

Haul on-farm and over roads. Drive heavy trucks/trailers to transport crop to elevator, storage, or other location. Haul harvest machines between worksites. Haul and transfer grain to/between grain store(s). Transfer bulk agricultural products between facilities.

Work is to be done for long periods of time. Workers should be able to work on their feet in bent positions for long periods of time. Work requires repetitive movements and extensive walking. Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, insect spray, related chemicals, etc. may affect workers' ability to perform the job. Workers are exposed to wet weather early in the morning through the heat of the day, working in fields. Temperatures may range from 10 to 100 F. Workers may be required to work during occasional showers not severe enough to stop field operations. Workers should be physically able to do the work required with or without reasonable accommodations.

Must have and maintain a valid U.S. commercial driver's license (CDL) or Licencia Federal de Conductor to permit driving of trucks. Must have clean driving record. Must comply with all applicable requirements of the USDOT regulations. Must have no disqualifying factors under applicable law or employer's motor vehicle insurance policy. Disqualifying factors include but are not limited to: conviction for driving under the influence, driving while impaired or the occurrence of a serious at-fault accident. A uniformly conducted motor vehicle records check will assess whether applicant has a clean driving record and is legally entitled to operate commercial motor vehicles in the United States.

Employer-paid pre-employment, as well as post-employment random, upon suspicion and post-accident drug testing required. Drug testing conducted uniformly for all employees, both foreign and domestic. Tests are conducted in accordance with USDOT standards after the initial employment offer has been extended and accepted. Drug test not required for prospective applicants prior to hiring decision. Any worker who fails a mandatory drug test and is unable to obtain the required licensing as a result will be terminated.

Employer assures that workers will be provided transportation from living quarters to work site every day (for workers who must be provided housing under the applicable regulations.)

The employer may discipline the worker, including brief suspension of work activities (“time out”) for a period determined by the supervisor, suspension from employment for a set period of days or termination of employment as described in the Work Rules.

Persons seeking employment as experienced Farmworker must be available for the entire period requested by the employer. Applicants must be able to furnish verbal or written statement establishing relevant prior work experience. Successful applicants will be subject to a trial period of up to five days during which their performance of required tasks will be evaluated. If the performance during the trial period is not acceptable to the employer the worker‘s employment will be terminated.

Employer retains the right to discharge an obviously unqualified worker, malingerer, or recalcitrant worker who is physically able but does not demonstrate the willingness to perform the work necessary for the employer to grow a premium quality product, or for any other lawful reason.

Special Requirements

This job requires a minimum of three months of employment experience in out-of-doors manual and mechanical labor jobs, preferably on a grain/corn farm. Workers must be able to perform all duties with accuracy and efficiency Saturday work required. Must be able to lift/carry 60 lbs. Employer-paid post-hire drug testing is required. Valid Class A CDL or equivalent required.
