Job description
Snowbird Sports Education Foundation (SBSEF), a competition and training program for three winter sport programs; Alpine Ski Racing, Freeride and Snowboard, located in Salt Lake City, Utah, seeks two (2) full-time, seasonal U16 ASSISTANT COACHs to coach U16 level athletes during ski season (ends in end of May). The U16 Assistant Coach will assist the U16 Head Coach to train U16 level athletes during ski season, including driving the athletes to ski races. Detailed responsibilities include:
Adhere to the guidelines and policies of SBSEF as prescribed in the SBSEF Employee Handbook; Be on time to prepare equipment (gates, timing, video) for each training session, Support Head Coach and share coaching, course setting, course and track maintenance, video and timing responsibilities as directed by Head Coach; Be available to lead free-skiing sessions when necessary, Communicate effectively with athletes, staff, and parents, Utilize video review/archiving techniques online (Sprongo, Dropbox, etc.); Meet with athletes, coaches, and parents for program nights/explanations; Assist with U16 conditioning sessions as needed, Assist with equipment recommendations and maintenance for U16 athletes; Administer goal setting and track each athlete’s goals and participate in athlete evaluation; Attend meetings as necessary; Assist Alpine Program Director with events as needed; Assist with Club-wide events as needed; Attend end of year Awards Banquet. Transport SBSEF athletes to races and projects; After each trip properly clean-up interior of the vehicle (with athletes). Fill out a Vehicle Log sheet after each trip; Report expenses (with receipts) to the U16 Head Coach; Assist with the repair and maintenance of equipment as necessary; Review technical videos and publications; Attend professional development courses/clinics/seminars to upgrade/update personal skills.
Special Requirements
USSA Coaching Certification
Experience coaching U16 level athletes.
Applicant must complete pre-employment background check and be able to provide at least one reference for prior work experience. Be able to communicate in English.
Driver's License to operate company's vehicle to transport athletes to competitions.
Age 22 for insurance/liability purposes.
Utilize video review/archiving techniques online (Sprongo, Dropbox, etc.).
Review technical videos and publications. Assist with the repair and maintenance of winter sport equipment (including
gates, timing, videos) as necessary.
Assist with equipment recommendations and maintenance for U16 athletes.
The anticipated start date of the job is October 1, 2023, and end date is May 31, 2024.
The main geographic area of intended employment is located on property in Salt Lake County of Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort, together with an adjacent gym and field for off snow training (all within Salt Lake County). The secondary employment area is Utah Olympic Park of Summit County,Utah for on snow training. This is expected on a weekly basis. Travel time is about 45 minutes by car.
Other travel would most typically be in a 5-hour radius of Salt Lake: Jackson, WY, Sun Valley, ID. etc. (generally 34 day trips, with some variation.) about 6 trips per year.
On-the-job training is provided.
Schedule: 40 hours per week. Work may be performed on any day of the week from Monday through Sunday, including holidays. Work hours will vary based on business levels, and work assignments can be in the morning, afternoon or both. Example shift: 6:00am 2:00 pm or 9:00am 4:00pm. Shift hours may vary.
Works will be paid within the first three days of the month (monthly) by check.
Workers will be paid no less than $25 per hour; workers with more experience may be paid higher wage rates ($25-$28.84 per hour). We dont require overtime from our H-2B workers.
A single workweek will be used to compute wages due.
The employer will make all deductions from the workers paycheck required by law.
If the worker completes 50% of the work contract period, employer will pay directly for and/or reimburse workers for transportation and subsistence from the place of recruitment to the place of work. Upon completion of the work contract or where the worker is dismissed earlier, employer will provide or pay for workers reasonable costs of return transportation and subsistence back home or to the place the worker originally departed to work, except where the worker will not return due to subsequent employment with another employer. The employer will pay directly for and/or reimburse workers for all reasonable inbound transportation and subsistence costs within the first workweek. The employer will pay directly for and/or reimburse workers for all reasonable outbound transportation and subsistence costs during the last workweek. The amount of transportation payment or reimbursement will be equal to the most economical and reasonable common carrier for the distances involved. Daily subsistence will be provided at a rate of $15.46 per day during travel to a maximum of $59.00 per day with receipts.
The employer guarantees to offer work for hours equal to at least three fourths of the workdays in each 12-week period of the total employment period.
The employer will reimburse the U16 ASSISTANT COACH in the first workweek for all visa, visa processing, border crossing and other related fees, including those mandated by the government, incurred by the worker. The employer will also provide to the U16 ASSISTANT COACH, without charge or deposit charge, all tools, supplies, and equipment required to perform the duties assigned.
