Job description
Dulac Oyster & Seafood, LLC needs 40 temporary seafood plant workers to work in our processing plant located at 4310 Grand Caillou Road, Houma LA 70363, in Terrebonne County. Starting October 1, 2023, to June 1, 2024. Workes will gently place the oysters on shaking tables and begin to separate the oysters according to the size and color that determines their destination within the plant; some workers will work opening oyster shells and removing the meat from the shell; packing, weighing, and labeling package; if oyster remains in shell plant workers will gently wash the outer shell removing dirt, algae or a slimy substance that grows on the oyster shell to avoid cross-contamination of bacteria before the shelled oysters are packed, weighed, labeled, and placed in ice boxes for pick-up or schedule deliveries to their rightful destination, such as restaurants, wholesalers, and manufacturers. All deductions from the worker’s paycheck required by law will be made Tool, equipment, and supplies will be provided to workers at no cost The anticipated employment will last 120 days or more Employer guarantees to offer work for a total number of hours equal to at least three-fourths of the workdays in each 12-week period of the total employment period H-2B workers will be reimbursed in the first workweek for all visa processing, border crossing, and other related fees, including those mandated by the government (excluding passport fees). Transportation for H2B visa workers and non-commuting United States Domestic Workers (Citizens, and holders of visas that allow work in the U.S.) including meals and lodging to the extent necessary, to the place of employment will be provided, or its cost to workers reimbursed, if the worker completes 50 percent of the period of employment period or is dismissed earlier by the employer. Upon completion of the work contract or where the worker is dismissed earlier, the employer will pay for the worker’s reasonable transportation and subsistence costs to return home or where the worker initially departed. The employer will also pay reasonable transportation and subsistence costs to workers who will not return home due to subsequent employment with another employer. The employer will not pay for return transportation and subsistence to workers reported to have voluntarily abandoned employment. The transportation payment or reimbursement amount will equal the most economical and reasonable common carrier for the distance involved. Daily meals will be paid at a rate of at least $15.46 p/day during travel to a maximum of $59.00 p/day with receipts. Workers will work 40 hours a week on a rotating schedule (Monday to Friday) 7 hours and Saturday 5 hours (Shifts: 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM, 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM, or 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM); Daily transportation will be provided to workers to and from plant located at (4310 Grand Caillou Road, Houma, LA 70363), at no cost to workers. Public transportation is available to the plant located at 4310 Grand Caillou Road, Houma, LA 70363 Tools, supplies, and equipment required to perform duties will be provided to workers at no cost All deductions from workers' paychecks required by law will be made as required by law Workers will have furnished lodging available at 4903 W. Main Street, Houma, LA 70360, with fully equipped kitchens for workers to prepare their daily meals. A lodging fee of $150.00 p/month with utilities included will be deducted from the workers' paycheck if the worker accepts lodging offered by the employer Workers who choose not to accept lodging provided by the employer and prefer to live elsewhere will not deduct the $150.00 p/month lodging fee from workers' paycheck.
Special Requirements
Required (3) months of work-related experience; no education; work on a rotating schedule and work in a cold and wet environment and stand to perform work duties.
