Job description

Perform manual labor to inspect greens including: Beets and Green Kale; Green Cabbage, Red Cabbage, Savoy Cabbage, Napa Cabbage, Flat Cabbage, Zucchini Squash, Yellow Squash and Broccoli to detect harmful diseases, chemical residues, or infestations and to determine the quality of products. Interpret and enforce government acts and regulations and explain required standards to agricultural workers. Inspect agricultural commodities or related operations for compliance with laws and regulations governing health, quality, and safety. Verify that transportation and handling procedures meet regulatory requirements. Inspect the cleanliness and practices of establishment employees. Examine, weigh, and measure commodities to certify qualities, grades, and weights. Monitor the grading performed by company employees to verify conformance to standards. Report findings and recommendations and advise grower of corrective action to be taken. Direct or monitor the quarantine and treatment or destruction of plants or plant products. Provide consultative services in areas such as equipment or product evaluation, plant construction or layout, or food safety systems. Monitor workers to ensure that safety regulations are followed. Train workers in techniques such as planting, harvesting, weeding, or insect identification and in the use of safety measures. Coordinate dismantling, moving, and setting up equipment at new work sites. Schedule work crews, equipment, or transportation for several different work locations. Inspect buildings, fences, fields or ranges, supplies, and equipment to determine work to be performed. Confer with managers to determine production requirements, conditions of equipment and supplies, and work schedules. Monitor operations to identify and solve problems, improve work methods, and ensure compliance with safety, company, and government regulations. Plan work schedules according to personnel and equipment availability. Workers with a valid license and doctor's certificate may transport other workers and be offered additional hours. Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, honey bees, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, or related chemicals may affect a worker's ability to perform the job. Persons seeking employment in this position must be available for the entire period requested by the employer. Employer reserves the right to discharge an obviously unqualified worker, malingerer or recalcitrant worker who is physically able but is unwilling to perform the work necessary for the employer to grow a premium quality product, or for any other lawful reason.

Employer may request, but not require, workers to work more than the stated daily hours and/or on a worker's Sabbath or federal holidays. Workers will have an unpaid lunch break. Worker must report to work at designated time and place each day. Daily or weekly work schedule may vary due to weather, sunlight, temperature, crop conditions, and other factors. Employer will notify workers of any change to start time.

TERMINATION. All workers will be subject to a 2 day introductory period, during which the employer will evaluate workers' performance of required tasks. Employer reserves the right to terminate a worker at the conclusion of the 2 day introductory period if the worker's performance fails to satisfy the employer's reasonable expectations, or is otherwise unacceptable.

Special Requirements

Three months of verifiable experience overseeing and inspecting greens required. Requires repetitive bending, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, sitting, walking and lifting and carrying of up to 60 lbs. Work is in inclement weather conditions including extreme heat, rain and cold. Employer is a drug-free workplace. Drug testing is conducted post-hire at the employer's expense and is not part of the interview process. Negative results are required before starting work.
