Job description
The essential work activity involves moving highly perishable agricultural crops (sugarcane, citrus, watermelon, mixed vegetables, and other agricultural commodities) directly from the fixed site agricultural properties of the association’s growers/members to the farm fields to the processing plant, the locations of which are detailed in the attached schedule. The haulers are required to complete each step of the haul as part of necessary field to processing facility activities for the harvest. Haulers must be physically and mentally healthy. Each worker is expected to operate hauling vehicles efficiently and safely through all types of routes. Haulers must be able to operate tractors, trailers, semi-trailers, and have adequate knowledge to make minor adjustments or repairs to these vehicles. Must have a CDL, or equivalent license, pass a required drivers license background check, ad mandated drug/alcohol test. Haulers must have and maintain a suitable driving record and be insured by the employers insurance company. If involved in an auto accident which you are found to be at fault, you will be subject to termination.
Daily job assignments will be made by, and at the sole discretion of, the Company Farm Managers as the progression of the growing season dictates. Workers must perform the assigned work as described in ETA 790, and work at the assigned Company locations. Workers
may not switch work at Company locations without specific authorization of the Farm manager. At the direction of the Farm Manager and/or Supervisor workers may be re-assigned to different farm locations within the company at various times of the workday and/or on different days.
The employer will provide the tools, equipment, materials, protective clothing, including gloves where required to perform all job specifications at no cost to the worker. The employer will charge the worker for reasonable costs related to the workers refusal or negligent failure to return the tools or due to such workers willful damage or destruction of the tools.
Equipment/Truck Rules: Workers are responsible for maintaining clean trucks and equipment:
1. Store all items away from the main sitting area of the vehicle or make sure they are secure.
2. Remove items from under the vehicle seats, especially items that can roll like water bottles.
3. Clear folders, tools, beverage containers or any other items from dashboards.
4. Clean mud or debris off shoes before operating the vehicle.
5. Clean up spills and throw away trash promptly.
6. If you become distracted by a spill or item that has fallen in the vehicle, pull over and stop in a safe area before you tend to it.
Workers are responsible for ALL damages done to Equipment/Trucks provided. Any damages that are not caused by normal wear and tear will be deducted from your pay. Continuous violations of the Equipment/Trucks may result in your termination of employment as well as
your right to live at the housing provided by the company.
The Hauling Team Coordinator will be required to communicate with other drivers, other team coordinators and farm management. Worker will report any issues with drivers to management. Worker will be responsible for monitoring and directing workers in the driver hauling position. Worker will assist drivers with daily pre-inspections and driving directions. They will assist drivers with becoming familiar with driving rules and the company’s safety guidelines.
Non-workers will not be permitted at the work sites or on company property without permission from the employer. Importantly, no non-working minor children under the age of 18 shall be present at the work site or left unattended in vehicles at the worksite during the day. Workers arriving at the worksite with non-working minor children or other non-workers will be sent home.
Special Requirements
Criminal background check and drug testing. Florida Growers Association may conduct a criminal background check and/or drug/alcohol test at the employer's expense on all new applicants post-employment. Failure to pass criminal background check and/or drug/alcohol screening is grounds for termination.
