Job description
FARM LABORER: Worker will be required to complete the following activities: general orchard maintenance; weeding; shoveling; hoeing; trunk painting; mowing; hand fertilizing; thinning; pruning; grafting; tying limbs; planting fruit trees; install tree screens/grow tubes; unload and stack hay bales weighing up to 60lbs; drive and operate vehicles, tractors or other agricultural equipment such as forklifts; load, haul, and unload harvested crops on farm or to employer-owned storage; routine general repairs and maintenance of farm equipment and tools on farm; conduct farm building repairs; wash and sanitize harvesting bins or repair harvesting bins; hand harvest to quality standards of apples, nectarines, peaches, plums; laying mylar; building and fixing trellis; install and maintain irrigation systems; maintain deer fencing; complete general hand tasks to include picking up garbage around the orchard, removing old string and wire from trellis and orchard blocks, picking up sticks and rocks throughout the orchard; conduct various field and farm clean up tasks at end of season.
Other duties assigned under this order will be consistent under Bureau of Labor Statistics Standard Occupational Classification: Farmworkers and Laborers, Crop, Nursery and Greenhouse Workers (45-2092)
Special Requirements
Experience Requirement: 2 verifiable months of commercial tree fruit hand harvest required. Applicants must furnish job references from recent employers, within the last 5 years, establishing acceptable prior experience.
Job requires worker to complete tasks in general farm labor, orchard care and maintenance and hand harvest of nectarines, peaches, plums and apples. Employer will provide instructions and training on specific job duties.
Season Commitment: Job offered requires worker be available for work for entire employment period.
Work Rule Violations: Worker may be disciplined and/or terminated for cause for violating work rules provided at orientation.
Drug testing done at employers expense and not utilized as a pre-employment tool.
